Loving yourself is something that some of us practice effortlessly every day of their life. But to some of us, it is just not a natural thing to do. Self-love is the most loving, caring, affectionate act you can gift yourself. Learning to appreciate who you really are with all your beauty and flaws is the beginning to your self-care journey.
As the old Arabic saying says “أحب نفسك أولا”, which translates to “Love yourself first”, prompts us to love who we are as individuals first and foremost. It means being at peace with yourself, accepting your traits, the good, the bad and ugly, all of what you are as a human being. Only then, you will begin to notice your strengths, your powers that you want to leverage but also acknowledge all the things that you want to change or evolve so you can shine your best version of yourself to this world, your family, friends, colleagues and community.
Three simple things you can do every day to practice self-love:
- Look at yourself in the mirror every morning when washing your face and smileat the person you are contemplating in the mirror.
- Say “Hi beautiful”
- Blow a kiss and say “I love you just the way you are”
Practice this exercise every day and start noticing how you feel about yourself. The more you do it every day as a ritual, the more you begin to believe it.
Once you begin to be comfortable with it, name a trait that you are most proudof about yourself every day when you blow that kiss!
